OUR STORY

Take Control Over Your Galaxy

As a young teen, I often wondered about my purpose in life. I started to question my identity and questioned the love my loved ones had for me. I remember being in the sixth grade and having to transfer to a new school. I was so uncomfortable and did anything to fit in. That choice cost me. When I got to Middle School, it was the same deal with me. My behavior continued and I was initiated into my first gang. I was later expelled from High School.

My mother said to me "You better check yourself before you wreck yourself", and I felt something. For the first time ever, I took accountability for my troubled teen life. I decided to love myself and care about my future! Day after day in the house, I thought about my WHY! My purpose.

I walked into my old High School and pleaded to be let back in, alone. I expressed my concern for my future. I let my principal know I was sorry for my behaviors. I was aware I came to School with the wrong attitude. I let my principal know I would change for the better because I loved myself. She trusted in me and I was back registered that day! Everyone around me saw a different me that day. I had known I was destined for great things. I just needed to first love myself, take ownership over my behaviors, and put humanity first.

It was not easy to take ownership, but with Self-awareness practices, I got closer each day. I would love to share with you how I made it through. Even as an adult I am still learning more about myself. Self-awareness opens a safe place for our community. One where everyone is conscious of their behaviors.
